Is the Disinfection Procedure of the Intensive Care Unit Able to Reduce the Bacterial Resistance and Risk of the Contamination?

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are acquired during care or hospitalization procedures and represent one of the most critical public health problems worldwide, as they are associated with increased morbidity, mortality, antimicrobial resistance, length of hospital stay, and financial costs. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently listed the ESKAPE group (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter species) in the list of bacteria against which new antibiotics are urgently needed.
